On a Woman for Woman posting which leaves me overflowing…
I have written about some of my sponsored Women For Women sisters in the past. Today I received a large envelope that had a letter and this beautiful beaded doily enclosed. After spending the weekend at Warm Beach on our church’s woman’s retreat, I was emotionally overflowing. To receive this precious gift from a woman that is absolutely struggling in an unsafe, war-torn area has filled my heart to overflowing even further.
As a someone who beads, I know the time it took to create this doily (especially considering my lack of patience with seed beads!), and considering this woman has eight children (as well as caring for her sick inlaws)–you can imagine how she manages her life, as difficult as it is already! I feel blessed that she took the time to even consider creating this for me!
Having been remiss at letter writing over this past year, I promise to be more active with that. Typically Women For Women discourages sending gifts like this because postage does get costly as you can imagine. I feel very blessed right now.
Clicking through to the flickr page, you can choose to view the item fully when clicking on “all sizes”. So much work!

Welcome to my blog--it is mainly craft related, but it is a mixture of miscellaneous happenings as well. I live in the great Pacific Northwest, happily, rain and all! I am a multi-tasker by trade, enjoy quilting along with some beading, knitting, and general fiber art when I get a wild hair. I am also a homeschooling parent, but will likely not write much on that here. Enjoy!

Hey, that is incredible.
Wow, that is awesome! What a fabulous gift and how thoughtful. It is definitely something to be treasured!
Mel, this is just beautiful. Tell me more about Women to women, it sounds intriging and like something I would like to do.
Carline in rainy Vancouver
Carline, here is their website: http://www.womenforwomen.org/ I began supporting the program 4yrs ago this June. For one year you support/sponsor a specific woman they assign to you. Sponsorship is currently offered in Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan.
WFW encourages letter writing monthly, and other years I have been much better about that. Some letters I have received have been personal, but overall that is probably one of the best parts of sponsoring–the actual correspondence. The hard part is that when the year is over, the woman you had been sponsoring “graduates” from their program and you are assigned a new woman. The original woman that “graduated” typically still stays within Women For Women, but at less intense of a level. Read more about them at their website, they are a 4 star charity. If I recall correctly, it is only $27 a month and the woman you are sponsoring receives this.
This was the first time that I have ever received something like this, and was really taken aback with just overflowing gratitude.
Thought I’d pop in here and say “hi”. This piece of beadwork is incredible! What a very talented woman!
