On a day at the park

Da Boyz

Let’s see… last weekend we had snow, rain, hail, thunderstorms, snow, rain, etc… this weekend is GORGEOUS! We had lunch at Blythe Park, and there were little daisies in the grass which made for some great picture opportunities. I love this picture of the boys!

On Dear Jane, my favorite block of each row

I thought I would upload my favorite blocks for each row. I seem to recall having a hard time with Row C, none were my favorite.

Some of the blocks aren’t perfect, I am sure very few are! But I liked the blocks for various reasons… challenging, ease of the pattern, fabrics, etc. I could probably choose a favorite of Row M too, but I will wait until after Row L is finished first.

On Dear Jane, Row J and K Finished

It’s been quite a while since my last Dear Jane update. As of today, I only have 12 more blocks (row L) to complete and I will be done with the main part of the quilt. Today I decided to clear out my sewing room so I could sew again. It’s been a catch-all room over the last couple of months, basically burying my ironing board and sewing table. I finished J8 and J10 and was able to sew that row together, added a finished row K, and then to the quilt. I debated taking the in-progress top off my design wall to sew my latest finished rows to it (especially since I only have one row left to go), but decided that I needed to take a picture with the added rows :-)

My numbers so far:
157 blocks
3161 pieces
Dear Jane, Row J and K finished

Sorry for the bad picture… The quilt top is now to the point that I have to move my table and ironing board out of the way in order to get a somewhat decent pic. I have already put everything back, otherwise I would retake for a better one. Row M is hanging off on the left side… just waiting for row L to finish. At this point, I have decided to do the triangles. At the rate I am going, I am not sure I will finish in 2008, but that is still my goal. Doing one triangle a day should be a good goal to have.

Happy Birthday to my 8yo!

The Birthday Boy! Halfway to driving age. eeesh.

I used a Dome-Zuccoto Cake pan set for this colorful pokeball cake. Daniel told me the colors he wanted, and away we went. Kevin has already told me that he wants a German chocolate baseball cake for his birthday. We’ll see how that turns out.

Daniel wanted to go to Outback for his birthday dinner… for the Mac-a-roo and cheese and a good time was had by all.

On Sourdough

I made some sourdough today. I started it late in the afternoon, so as I am writing this, the bread is still cooling (10pm).

I used my Italian starter, Ischia Island. I love that starter, it is definitely my favorite so far. It doesn’t have a strong flavor, but enough to taste the difference. I added some rosemary, garlic, and basil to my basic dough. I was probably Italian in another lifetime. This is after the 2nd rise. The first rise had dough all over my oven. ugh. I need to run the self-cleaning mode.
After 2nd rise La Cloche

I tried out my round la cloche for the first time tonight too. I am impressed, and plan to use these often (I also bought a long one for a loaf).

30 minutes at 500. I don’t think I have cooked at that high a temp before. 15 minutes at 450 with the lid off.
finished! Finished! yum!

You’ll notice the container behind the finished bread. The starter is already popping the lid off! I also have another batch of dough ready to go for tomorrow. That one is a “no-knead” method. I have tried it once before, but it was so wet and it didn’t turn out the way I had hoped. So, I am trying again tomorrow with the la cloche and we’ll see if I get better results.

A little of everything

My head has been in a cloud lately. Not sure exactly how to clear it, so obviously my creativity and blog posting have been lacking. One thing I did do was attend my homeschool group’s knitting club in March (first tuesday of the month? I think). That was the first knitting I have done since around October/November. Still working on old Lenore. The red isn’t true in the picture… but at this point I am finished with the heel decreases and now I am just working to the toe decreases. Can’t wait to finally call that project quits. Good gawd my feet look really old in the big pic. I need to reduce my upload sizes so not so much of THAT detail is shown :-)
RSC: October? Lenore

Daniel had his first Northshore Little League AA baseball game in March too. Kevin decided to coach this year, not sure how many balls he likes to have in the air at the same time, but he seems to be juggling life pretty well right now.

And of course I am on Darrin-duty during this time. I haven’t been able to really get any good pics since Darrin seems to want to “help” with the camera. I’ll figure something out before the end of the season. We had snack duty for the April 1 game. Kev bought some sardines and prune juice for the players… all in April fools fun. The kids took it well, and one kid was even excited saying that his sister loved sardines! Sidenote…. Darrin apparently loves sardines too. Not sure WHAT that kid DOESN’T like yet!

and loving the available shirts they have for babies…
I Still Live With My Parents! I Still Live With My Parents :-) Perfect. Now, I’ll let you know if it is still the case in 20 years!

I’ll try not to have so much down time on the blog. Hopefully I can get my head back into playing again.
