On the first day of pony camp

Daniel and Cookie
Daniel had day one of pony camp today (10-noon). For this beginner’s class (no experience), two kids share a pony. One group does crafts while the other half does lessons. After getting there, I hung around for a little bit, but having a cranky baby didn’t make that very simple. So I decided Darrin needed a drive and I needed a coffee. After getting home to make my latte, The Horsemanship School calls, and Daniel is on the line saying that he is nervous and wants me to be there and get him. I literally stepped through the door when the phone rang. So I told him that I was making a coffee, and that I would be back.

When I returned, one group was leading the ponies to the arena, and Dan’s group was going to the observation area to do a craft. I talked to him a little bit, asked him which pony was his and asked if he pet
Cookie (what a name! :-). I told him that I would really like to at least see him leading Cookie, and when he was comfortable, he could sit in the saddle.

At this point, Darrin was getting cranky so I told Dan I was going to take Darrin by the chickens and feed him, but that I would still be there.

Daniel’s group went down to ride, and I purposely hung back. After I saw little helmets bobbing around, I walked over and looked for Daniel. Yah! He was riding Cookie and he had the biggest smile on his face :-)

What’s funny, he wasn’t wanting to go to “pony” camp because he was positive that the ponies would be pink and purple like the My Pretty Ponies! LOL! It took some convincing for him to believe they are simply smaller horses… starter horses :-)

He is looking forward to going back again tomorrow.

On a new project (like I don’t have enough!): Heartbeat Sweater

Heartbeat Sweater Heartbeat Sweater

I just started this pattern by Jill Vosburg. I was late in the game, as it is pretty popular of a knit. The yarn color was hard to capture. The actual color of the yarn is somewhere between these two pictures–probably closest to the one with the whitish background, but the colors are more of a medium than a dark.

Yarn: Something out of my stash that I purchased off eBay a couple years ago (handpainted wool, know the colorway was named ‘Storm’)

On today’s activities

Dragonfly(?) Big Bird?
This dragonfly(?) sat on our rocks for at least an hour this afternoon. I could get within a few feet for pictures. It flew up a few times, but landed back in the same place. I tried to get Kevin to take a picture of it with his cool camera, and after he realized that it was still in the same area after an hour, he attempted it. The bug flew off as soon as Kev approached :-) I feel lucky he posed for me!

UAMQ all fixed
I fixed my mystery quilt this afternoon during Darrin’s naptime. Again, fabrics from Cherrywood Fabrics… love love love them :-) I was also able to work on more of my Journal Quilt after fixing the mystery quilt. But then Darrin woke up and I wasn’t able to work on it as much as I was hoping.

Say Cheese!
Hi Mom! :-) I wish my camera focused better when I turn off the flash. I like this picture though. The quilt on the wall, “Skagit Valley Scarlet” by Caryl Bryer Fallert. Love that quilt.

On the quilting front

UnGathering Amish Mystery Quilt Ornament paperpieced Blocks I finished the top to a mystery quilt this afternoon after finishing pp’cing the ornament blocks. It wasn’t until I uploaded images off my camera, and searched for a good picture that I found a mistake. Growl. I will be fixing that block later today or tomorrow. I used fabrics from Cherrywood Fabrics, I love the textures from her dye technique.

For an exchange, I need to sign 27 of these 4.5×4.5 inchers. Patterns found here: www.geocities.com/pcpiecers/ornamentswap.html Even though I prefered pp’ing the first set of ornament blocks in the picture, I prefered the looks of the more round-shaped pattern instead.

Finished: May Sock, “Knee High to a Grasshopper”

Finished! Though, I am almost finished with sock #2, I am calling my May socks done before we hit the end of June :-) I need to do a few more rounds and bind off.

I also did a picot bind off. I thought this yarn and pattern deserved something a little more than a regular bind off :-) I know I have already said I love this yarn, but Blue Moon Fiberart’s silky is WONDERFUL! I bought a couple more skeins of it, and would love to do something else special with it… not sure what yet, but it will come to me!
