On “Snapshots of My Safari”

For some Ungathering attendees (those that did not go to the retreat this weekend), I made up some postcards using my left over scraps from my pinwheel quilt. I had a fabric panel that I bought with my other African fabrics that had printed strips of animals. That worked well in adding to the front and backs of the postcards.

I ended up making 25. If I didn’t want it to be such a quick project (also, if I hadn’t made that many), I would have added some beaded embellishments. But for a quick, scrap-busting project, it turned out well I think.

I am mailing these in envelopes, in fact, one is even going to South Africa :-)

On a new quilt finished! (yes! she is still a quilter!)

“My Safari”

For one of my quilt groups, there is a retreat going on right now. For those of us not able to make it (drat! this year it was in S. California… trip to Hoffman Fabrics, a QIAD goodie–was suppose to be another trip to the shop, Disneyland, etc…) we make what we term an”Ungathering Quilt”. This year, it is a pinwheel pattern. The pinwheels are actually prairie points, so it was a VERY easy project! The hard part was deciding the fabrics to use.

I had some 10″ animal prints I have been wanting to do something with, and this was a good project for that. The African fabrics that I have been saving also came in handy for the sashing, binding, cornerstones, and backing. I love this backing fabric. The fish are huge, and before deciding to use it as a backing, I had no idea what to do with it. above is a picture of the entire backing, to get an idea, the quilt is about 27″x27″.

I am thinking about doing some beading to it as well. Clicking on the images will take you to larger versions to view.

I wonder if my desert episode of not quilting or creating may be over?
