On a sweater for Daniel

ds1.JPGI thought I would post a picture of Daniel’s 1st sweater in progress. It’s a kangaroo sweater from the Knitting Experience Book 2. I decided to do it in the round, but didn’t pay attention for when to add the sleeves, so I think at this point I am going to steek the sleeves after I finish the body. This will be the first time to attempt steeking, wish me luck! For this sweater, I used a Cascade yarn, can’t remember what the content is (too lazy to find a label at the moment), but it has merino mixed I believe. It’s soft! Daniel loves that I am making him a sweater, and that it’s green :-)
I am nearly to the point where I can start reducing at the neck (I have more rounds on than when this pic was taken), I am a little nervous about the steps to take for finishing with the sleeves, etc. but I am sure all will go well!

On playing with tyvek

tyvek.JPG After a year of having it, I finally played with Tyvek tonight. My image isn’t very good, I should have used a black background but I wanted to have a sheet of untreated Tyvek underneath. Anyway, what was cool was that I could use my heat gun on the sheets without having to wait for the paint to dry. Impatient me. Heating the pieces was similar to “painting”… brushstrokes with a heat gun :-) It was fun to do, and I definitely plan to do it again. These will become part of my July Page for my Quilt Art Journal Quilt project for this year.

On a new friend made

wfw.jpg In April, I signed up to be matched with another woman in need with Women For Women International. It has taken four months, but I have finally been matched! It’s kind of an strange thing to say I am excited about being matched, but to know that this is a more personally connected organization (with sisters) is what makes it such a good feeling to me. Plus, making it more personal, I received a picture and a small snapshot of her story. As a sister, I am encouraged to write once monthly, as she is encouraged in responding. Over the year, I will post blurbs with how this program has affected ME, and the good that is happening (of course, personal info won’t be shared here). I will say that my new sister is in Kosova. I didn’t state a country I most wanted to be matched within, only where the need was the greatest.

On progress being made

P7010001 (2).JPGI am nearing completion on Kevin’s to-be-felted vest. I need to do the edge finishing on the arm holes and then I can felt that puppy. I am nervous, however. In doing initial try-ons, it is sooooo wide on Kevin. I have heard that width won’t shrink, that length does. I am hoping that it will shrink up. If not, then after it’s felted I could always take the sides in–though I would have much rather not have to. I am happy with how it’s coming along.

Good old Gracie… the fiber/knit expert put her two cents in… definitely a kitty-worthy project that she’d like to stretch out on! :-)
