On a day at the beach

beach9.jpg beach3.jpg Daniel and I spent the afternoon at the beach. It turned out to be a nice day, warm too. I love Edmonds beaches… I just love Edmonds! It makes me homesick, and wish that we could live there… but Bothell is more convenient for Kevin’s commute. Tho’ Bothell doesn’t have salty air! Oh well, can’t be a kid forever I guess. sigh.

Happy Graduation to my Hubby!!!

Happy Graduation, Kevin!! Kev received his Bachelor’s of Science in Information Technology today :-) I am so proud of you!!!

On a knitting project nearly complete: Fulled Vest

vest1.jpg I have had a week of not wanting to really have much to do with technology, so I thought I would upload something today. This is a vest that I have been working on for Kevin. It will be fulled when I am done knitting. This is my first attempt at felting/fulling a garment, so wish me luck. I am currently working on the back of the vest, with the two fronts finished. I knitted in the round, as I didn’t want to have to do much finishing. I should be done with this in a few days–if I actually work on it :-)
I am using Brown Sheep Co wool, can’t remember the name of the color, but it’s grey :-) I plan to put pockets in after fulling (steek, to create pockets that are more to the side).

On a cotton cardigan in progress

P6080004 (2).JPG I thought I would upload an in-progress image of my latest project. I started working on it about a month ago, and have been working on it on and off. I am using Peruvian cotton, dyed in beautiful blue (and pink) variations. Of course, the image doesn’t really show the true color, but when I am finished I will try to get a more representational image.

The pattern I am using is similiar to my Lopi Erin cardigan that I still need to work the hood on. For the current cardigan I am working (will be refered to as the cotton Erin), I am planning to create a collar instead of hood.

Oh, and I finally understand the term of “worms” or “worming” in reference to yarns. There are a few places where the strand of acrylic has broken, and the cotton then works it’s way free. (it’s like a boucle yarn, not sure of the term, I am a newbie to knitting). Unruly little buggers. At least it’s not noticeable… now. We’ll see after a few washings/wearings.

I think Gracie, the fiber inspector, approves.

On Playing with fibers

In painting the spare bedroom for Daniel to move into, I went through old clothing that we’d been storing and not ready to get rid of (til now). I came across a wool bi-colored sweater (bright pink and black) that I decided should be felted. I have washed it 5x over the past two days, and I think it is felted enough to be made into “something”. I am not sure what that “something” is yet, but I have since taken apart the garment and have it laying on my drafting table. I think I will need to steam it a bit as where the yarn carried (on the back of the sweater), it of course caused a little scrunching up. I am hoping I can relax it a bit.

Also, I have been working on my Quilt Art Journal Quilt Pages and really wish I could share images of them NOW! I will have to wait until October, however. Drats. My May page is my favorite right now :-)

On the Adoption Front

Tonight, Kev and I finished the paperwork for becoming foster parents. We still need to get updated with our CPR/First Aid. Also, yet another TB test is a requirement. Here is my question… I have had to have so many TB tests because of working around children (it’s some state requirement), can one get TB from being poked by the test as many times as I have? I want to say the last time we had to have it done was when we adopted Daniel. And, during this same time, a guy at Kevin’s workplace at the time actually was hospitalized for TB!

In signing paperwork today, it felt as if we were signing a mortgage–there were SO many signatures required.

Anyway, this is a new possible route to adoption that we are taking. We’ll see where God leads us next! *singing Rascal Flats song “God blessed the broken road, that led me straight to you”. That song should be the theme for any hopeful adoptive parents!! however, Daniel’s road to adoption was really a shortcut :-) Haven’t found many of those along this 2nd adoptive trail :-)
