On a Completed Hat

angorabirds.jpg

I finished the angora hat that I started a few days ago. I mailed it off today to a friend that is undergoing a second round of chemo after finding out that the cancer she has is progressing. I was sad to hear that news, but she is such an upbeat person–even now with the recent events. She definitely has the right attitude to beat this.

On Floppy Hats

I wanted to post my latest little project. Kevin keeps hinting (blatantly asking) when I will be making him something, but right now it’s all about ME :-) I think this is because I am still trying out new things and don’t want him to feel obligated to wear something with a big gaping hole where it shouldn’t be. Though, I can see design potential in that!

The yarn I am using is a gorgeous pastel angora yarn by Danette Taylor. Right now, I would have to say that she is my favorite designer for hand dyes. I should be able to finish up this project today–a nice hiatus from my sleeves on the Erica sweater. And as I twirl the yarn on the needles, I am thinking of designs in my head of the next art quilt of incorporated knitting within (no images will be posted until after the Journal Quilt Pages have been sent to Houston in October).

On Feeling Antsy About Adoption Progression

We were homestudy approved in February, and now we are playing the waiting game in the adoption realm. Now having the homestudy finished, I am ready for a placement–or at least some possible referrals. I wish that we would have another magical situation come upon us much like how Daniel came to us… but the reality may not be that neat, quick, and clean. I ready to become a mom again. I am so ready to become a mom again. In some ways I want to tempt fate and try fertility treatments, but I know that is just as unsure as adoption. Why does becoming a mom have to be so hard? What happened to the thousands of kids in foster care that we were told about? Why aren’t any of these children being referred to us?

I have often been wondering/considering surrogacy. I don’t know if that is a good option for us either.

On what I am currently on

Here is my current project. Lopi’s Erica hooded sweater. I am currently working the pattern on a sleeve. This is about 9 days worth of work for me–evenings mostly. I put it down for a couple of weeks and decided to begin again last night. I am looking forward to the finished product :-)

On Mommy’s Little Helper

gracieyarn.jpgMy Gracie-cat… last night she basked in the warmth of the fire, and just waited for her moment to attack the yarn I was winding up. True to her Ragdoll cat traits, she loves to stretch out while on her back. I am glad that we decided to get a Ragdoll kitty… her personality is really easy going, and kid friendly. I think she believes she is a kid just like Daniel! Heaven knows she loves to steal his toys! And lately she has taken a liking to stealing the microphone cover off of Kevin’s headphones! But her most favorite toy of all? Bottle caps! You could open a bottle of Pepsi in a closet and she would come running!

On 8150 yards

Approximately 4550yds rolled up, approximately 3600yds to go. It’d be nice to have a yarn swift and ball winder to wind it up… it wasn’t too bad rolling it up without those two things, until I got to the lace weight… then if felt endless! I wonder if I can earn any WW’s activity points for this? LOL! I felt a bit stiff in the neck and upper arms after doing all that winding yesterday. I think I will look into a swift and winder.

On A Child’s Joy

Our budding piano player :-) Daniel is actually starting to sound pretty good. We are considering starting piano lessons, but for fun. I’ve sat down with Daniel a few times to help him find the basics, and shortly after that he was paying attention to notes and the music he was making.

When Kev took this picture, Daniel was totally oblivious and just enjoying his playing. Lately we’ve been having a lot of “4yr old moments” that have made us smile or laugh. Kidisms are great!

On a Finished Knitted Bag

green.JPGI haven’t been very wordy lately… quite the opposite. But in the past couple of weeks I have been knitting an Einstein Coat, designed by Sally Melville. I finished the bottom half this week, and started on the left front today. I have been reading about knitters having problems with bulky sleeves, so when I get to that point, I will need to check measurements so I don’t have flapping sleeves :-)
So, because I had been working on that coat for three weeks now (along with semi-starting sleeves on a Best of Lopi design–Erica hooded cardigan), I felt the need to have a quickly finished project. Two days ago I started knitting this bag, using Lopi yarns. I am thinking about adding a button for an enclosure, but for now I am satisfied. I may try washing and agitating it once more to get more felting out of it.

The bag is knitted in the round, with increases and decreases. The bottom was gathered, and the handle was knitted in the garter stitch, 8 stitches, and then edges sewn together to create a rolled effect.

It feels nice to have completed something.
