In my August 25th WI update, Tom had posted a comment: “My wife is using the WW plan, and is 10 lbs short of her goal. I give her and you lots of credit for sticking with it!! Now, if I can just get her to excercize a little with me - even just an evening walk of a mile or so…”
http://presidentschallenge.org/ To start here is a link to the President’s Challenge. It’s a fitness challenge to get people moving. There are awards when reaching a certain number of points. For me, I like the visual of my progress… any positive I can see, I need!
It is all in my motivation towards a bigger goal, rather than just the activity itself. I have found a lot of changes concerning my abilities over the last year, and I have to say that if Kevin wanted to go walking 2yrs ago, I would have probably been a hard push to get out the door. Well, actually, to be honest, we both would have been difficult to move.
I would get anxieties over walking. I would worry that I would walk, and it would hurt so bad that I wouldn’t be able to get home. Truth is, it did hurt but my anxieties would make it just that much worse. My solution to that was purchasing our first treadmill (which is now worn out!). When I first started, 5 minutes was an eternity to me. But today I am able to walk for an hour and instead of feeling pain, I feel elation. I have never felt anything like that previously during/after exercising. And now with the bonus of ski season coming up, I am just that much more excited with each time I exercise.
Instead of taking a walk, why not try something different… tennis, swimming, skiing :-), or another activity you can enjoy together? Perhaps she can try yoga? Finding the activity can be hard… If you are able to, maybe purchase a treadmill? (I love my new Smooth Fitness treadmill. It’s awesome!!) Even with my walking on the treadmill, having my focus really be on how good it feels to ski again is in my head. In fact, my calves have really shrunk over the past year, and I need to try on my ski boots soon to see if I need another adjustment (read, make smaller! yah!).
Anyway, yes, we can all lose weight, but in the end, I want to have the stamina and endurance to be able to continue with my new active lifestyle. Keep trying to encourage her… maybe make it a walk to Baskin-Robbins! LOL! That would motivate me! LOL!!
