On Interesting plants…

040008 (2).JPG

Here is Daniel with a “Chinese Lantern Plant/Strawberry Ground Cherry” or Physalis alkekengii :-) Pretty interesting plant, I will have to take a few pictures of the fruit of the plant. It is a paper-textured, thin lantern shape, and inside is a reddish seed that looks like a cherry. Seeds within. This plant is invasive, so it is suggested to keep it in a pot or in an area that is to be naturalized.

Read about the Chinese Lantern Plant here and take a look at some of the pictures. There is a neat one here . The lighting really makes the image come alive.

More On Camera Phones

Littlegym1.JPG littlegym2.JPGI wanted to send another set of images from my camera phone (LG VX6000) taken on Wednesday when I took Daniel to The Little Gym. As you can see, the quality isn’t as good as when the subject is closer, but at least I can still send good sized images via the phone (clicking on the thumbnail will bring up the fullsized, unedited image).

So… Daniel is on the balance beam in the first image, and on the parallel bars in the second. He’s starting to get more brave. He is very cautious (which is good, but we want him to start taking chances), and by taking him to The Little Gym once a week for a class, we were hoping that it would help with feeling more confident. It’s been three weeks now, and I have been noticing growth. I am glad we signed him up for 21 weeks.

On Camera Phones

Picture001.JPG Picture002.JPGThis weekend, Kevin and I upgraded our phones. About four years ago, we decided to join the cell phone crowd following a medical emergency with my dad. Before that, we had ditched our cell phones for about three years. The cell-free years were nice, we will admit that. But we are in the here-and-now again :-)

Anyway… back to the phone upgrade. Kevin wanted a phone with a camera (also wanted one that is Bluetooth enabled, but the one Verizon had was spendy), and I wanted a flip phone. So we found a buy-one-get-one-free that we both liked (Verizon’s LG VX6000. click here for a review ). I wish it had preloaded games… I like being able to play a cheesy game while waiting to pass the time on occasion :-) but if I want games, I have to pay. Oh well. And ringers! Sheesh… isn’t there a NORMAL ringer out there anymore? ok, what’s normal? I don’t know, but it seems that my phone has anything but :-) Today I did purchase a ringtone (The Great Escape), it’s from a war movie of the same name… and it was one of my dad’s favorites. Anyway, I liked the chipper, almost humor-filled tone of it, and it didn’t sound “tinny” like so many of the tones are. Every time I hear the song, I can see James Garner’s face :-) Little childhood memories.

Back to the camera part… I took a pic of Daniel on Saturday and today, quick snapshots. I haven’t played with it enough to get an idea if the color and quality is typical. Not bad shots, but Daniel does look pretty yellow in the second image. Neither have been retouched, so you can get an idea of what a camera phone image looks like. I did, however rotate the second image. First one was taken on Saturday in the late afternoon, second one was taken today at about noon. Seems to have focused on the front of his car seat… perhaps I just need to become a better photographer? :-)
